The Business Benchmark on Farm Animal Welfare is the leading global measure of company performance on farm animal welfare
There is growing attention being paid to the issue of farm animal welfare by global food companies. This is being driven by a variety of factors: food scandals, tightening regulatory requirements on animal welfare and on food safety and quality, investor concerns about how food companies are managing farm animal welfare and other risks in their supply chains, and consumer interest in issues around food quality, safety, provenance and traceability.
The Business Benchmark is the first global measure of company performance on animal welfare and, since its inception in 2012 has established itself as a catalyst for influencing change in corporate practices on animal welfare management and reporting.

Updates to 2024 Reporting Tool
Prefilling of responses: if your organisation started or submitted a report in 2023, your previous responses will be prefilled and highlighted by an amber box. We encourage you to review and/or update your pre-filled responses. Remember to click ‘Save’ or ‘Save and continue’ to ensure changes are recorded before navigating between indicators. If you do not save your changes, the response will revert to the original prefilled answer and the module status will remain ‘Not Started’ on the overview page.
Built-in guidance: guidance on each indicator is now more visible. This can be viewed by clicking the tab in the top right-hand corner. The same guidance can also be downloaded from the PRI website.
Easier navigation to specific indicators: we have added indicator numbers to the module sections and sub-sections in the overview page, making it is easier to find specific indicators.
Important information before you start reporting
The Reporting Tool supports multiple concurrent users. However, it will only keep the most recently saved data if two users amend the same indicator simultaneously. Navigate to the Permission System to add more users and refer to the user guide for details on how to use the system.
The Reporting Tool will be available 24/7. The system may be slower during a scheduled maintenance window, Sunday between 02:00 and 03:00 (BST).
For more detail on how to use the Reporting Tool, refer to the 2024 Reporting Tool user guide.
